The Ice Skating Party :: essays research papers
The Breaking of Ice at the Skating Party The night of the skating party hold events that is romantic, symbolic and tragic. Two versions of the story told by two people present at the skating party share insight into the versions they believe to be true, except one story teller has a few secrets that has laid guilt on his mind for over thirty years. Merna Summersââ¬â¢ The Skating Party holds a lesson in love and life; Nathan and Winnie Singletonââ¬â¢s stories are different, Winnie believes Nathan tragically lost his ââ¬Ëwife to beââ¬â¢ in a skating accident, when in reality Nathan loses a love, no one else but him knows of. Nathanââ¬â¢s thoughts on the mood of the night, and his indirect statement referring to his tragic episode will reveal why the narrator considered it peculiar that Uncle Nathan had never married and who he was really in love with. à à à à à Winnieââ¬â¢s version of the skating party is accompanied with darkness so beautiful that Nox the goddess of night could be present; the night ski fluttered with moon light and cloud, the bon fireââ¬â¢s demon like reflection quivered over the frozen water. Friends and family dance with one another oblivious to anything outside their magic ice-land. As the night advanced, people went up to the house where the party would continue; two young ladies went in opposite directions of everyone else and went through the thin ice. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à ââ¬Å"Near the fire, people heard their [the two girls] à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à cries for help. Winnie tells the story of her brother in-laws encounter with death. à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à ââ¬Å"Your uncle Nathan risked his life, my mother saidâ⬠¦ à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à There was no way on earth he could save both girls.â⬠à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à (Summers pg.191) Tragically, Nathan did not save both girls, during the ordeal the moon was hiding behind the clouds and Nathan could not make out faces, he grabbed the first set of hands he could and the other pair went under without a trace. Winnie and everyone else share the feeling of, how ironic and sad; we all know Nathan wanted to save his love Eunice.

Developmental Analysis Essay
Abstract The field of study that examines patterns of growth, change, and stability in behavior that occur throughout the entire lifespan is called lifespan development. Lifespan development takes a scientific approach in its study of growth, change, and stability. This development emphases on human development. Developmentalists study the course of development in nonhuman species, the most popular examine growth and change in people. In contrast I will focus on the ways people and myself change and grow during our lives, with the consideration of stability in our live span. Together, these findings suggest that we will go through different developments and stages from Infancy, through childhood and adolescence, and to marriage and parenthood. 11% of infants are born earlier than normal. Infants who are born prior to 38 weeks after conception is called preterm infants. When coming into this world I was born as a premature infant, I was born at 6 months due to my mother suffering from an illness called pneumonia. I was hospitalized for 4 months with tubes and monitors hooked up to me to help me eat, breathe and regain enough strength to go home to be with my family. Rupert (2006) discusses the prevention of premature birth, what you can do to prevent from having a premature baby. It is said that tension and stress can play a part and having a premature baby the less stress and tension on the body will prevent having a premature baby. Seeing a doctor regularly, taking prenatal pills, vitamins, eating healthy and making sure you have a good amount of rest can prevent premature birth as well. Being pregnant is a wonderful time for any women but it also require for you to be healthy as possible being pregnant can cause for you to go through a lot changing carrying a baby for nine months. Also, depending on your body you can go through more than otherà women when becoming pregnant, if you didnââ¬â¢t go through anything with your first child sometimes you can have some minor problems with your second child thatââ¬â¢s why it is important for you to take care of yourself when being pregnant. In my case I was my motherââ¬â¢s third child and coming down with an illness serious enough as pneumonia can be caused by stress and or from not taking care of yourself enough to remain healthy when pregnant. There are many factors on why prematurity will occur in women, rates of preterm births differ between racial groups, not because of race per se, but because members of racial minorities have disproportionately lower incomes and higher stress as a result Feldman (2014, p.95). Growing into the life cycles of infancy I stayed with my grandmother something I didnââ¬â¢t not find out until I was an adult. My mother expressed to me that she wasnââ¬â¢t able to care for me at the time because I was too small for her to feel comfortable caring for me at the time. When hearing this it did take me by surprise and hurt me a little only because I felt like she could have said something sooner than when it came out to me. I felt like there was a little detachment there because my mother wasnââ¬â¢t caring for me the first couple months I was born and/or when I was released from the hospital. Hotelling (2004) states not all parenting styles are alike. What individuals do as parents depends somewhat on how they were raised as a child, what they observed in other families, and what they have been taught. Two very different styles have emerged: Attachment Parenting and Baby wise. Parenting Oneââ¬â¢s own developed style of parenting will probably fall somewhere between the two. Attachment Parenting is a highly respected approach that promotes securely attached children. The problems with Baby wise Parenting, however, have been known to include detachment, behavioral disorders, dehydration, failure to thrive, irritability, infant anorexia, and even infant death (Hotelling, 2004).Parenting is never easy. Perspective parents are encouraged to seek out resources for support and information, starting now, to help ease the way. One thing is for sure: No recipe for parenting will guarantee a good nightââ¬â¢s sleep every night or perfect children (Hotelling, 2004). As stated in the article Bowlby (1982) defined attachment as a child being ââ¬Å"strongly disposed to seek proximity to and contact with a specific figure and to do so in certain situation, notably when he is frightened, tired or illâ⬠. Typically, preferred attachment emerges clearly in the latterà part of the 1st year of life, as evidenced by the appearance of separation protest and stranger wariness. Under usual conditions, preferred attachment unfolds gradually over the 1st year of life (Zeanah and Fox, 2004). Preferred attachments to caregivers may develop at any time after infants reach a cognitive age of 7 to 9 months, provided that the new caregivers have sufficient involvement with the child. Thus, young child ren adopted out of foster care or institutions readily form attachments to their new caregivers (Zeanah and Fox, 2004). Zeanah and Fox (2004) states there are four patterns of attachment, secure, avoidant, resistant, and disorganized have described individual differences in the organization of an infantââ¬â¢s attachment behaviors with respect to an attachment figure in this procedure. RAD was first introduced into the diagnostic nosologies just over 20 years ago, with the publication of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (3rd ed. [DSM-III], American Psychiatric Association, 1980).The criteria were substantially revised in DSM-I. The disorder is defined by aberrant social behavior that appears in early childhood and is evident cross-contextually. Two patterns have been described, an emotionally withdrawn ââ¬âinhibited pattern and an indiscriminately social ââ¬âdisinhibited pattern, each of which have been observed in children raised in institutions and in maltreated children (Zeanah and Fox, 2004). Growing into an adult after finding out that I wasnââ¬â¢t raised by my mother the first few months I felt some emotional distress, I felt from looking back on my childhood that there were some favoritism between me and my other brother and sisters. Feldman (2014) states developmentalists believe a true emotion has three components: a biological arousal component (such as increased breathing rate or heartbroken), a cognitive component (awareness of feeling anger or fear), and a behavioral component (displaying that one feels unhappy by crying, for example). Growing up my father was in my life after I came home from my grandmothers, but only for short amount of time. My father was abusive to my mother which caused for him to break up and get a divorce. After the divorce we didnââ¬â¢t really see our father that because of how abusive he could be and once he moved out he moved back to his hometown of New York, NY. We spoke occasionally on the phone and he even visited from time to time but as time went on the calling and the visiting stopped. It was very difficult to adjust to him not being there and not hearing from him the older me and myà brother and sisters got. Meyer (2010) discuss the influence of children on womenââ¬â¢s decisions to seek help when experiencing intimate partner violence. Intimate partner violence (IPV) has a detrimental effect on the wellbeing of victims and their children. Meyer (2010) states the role (unborn) children has been examined together with other demographic and situational factors to reveal their influence on victimsââ¬â¢ help-seeking decision. The two items were used to measure the role of children, including victimsââ¬â¢ pregnancy at the time of the abuse and children residing with the victim and witnessing the abuse. While the presence of unborn children (i.e., pregnancy) had no effect on victimsââ¬â¢ help-seeking decisions, children witnessing the abuse emerged as the strongest predictor of general and more formalized help ââ¬â seeking decisions. In conclusion, whil e the involvement of unborn children had no effect on victims help-seeking decisions, children who resided with the victim and directly witnessed the abuse had the largest effect on all examined help-seeking decisions. Seeing my mother abused at a child does take a piece of you and the reality if you will be yourself in the same situation when you get older to experience being an relationship yourself, also the fact of dealing with the fact that your father has been in and out of your life does cause emotional and physical damage. You can grow up with bitterness in your heart not willing to love or open yourself to feelings and emotions that will help you bond with others or make it hard for you to fall in love. As a child you learn how too really love from your parents but how to love another of the opposite sex you feel that emotion from your father as far relationships with other men. Wilcox (2012) argues is parent abuse a form of domestic violence, in this situation I would say there are many similarities between domestic violence and parent abuse since both entail a constellation of abusive behaviors embedded in the family relationship. In both cases, the majority of victims/survivors are fema les /mothers. Both involve a continuing process of social harm requiring day to day management. As with domestic violence, parent abuse involves everyday stresses which shape a parentââ¬â¢s ability to ââ¬Ëparent effectively ââ¬Ë. There are similarities but I would go as far to say same itââ¬â¢s a form of domestic violence because on the other hand had stated in the article, the parent has an ongoing responsibility to parent, versus making the option of ending or leaving the relationship inappropriate. If you have ever experienced loveà from your father how do you know how to love another man if your own father didnââ¬â¢t show you how a man is to love you? The role of the father in child development; parents donââ¬â¢t think having the father around while pregnant can affect the unborn child. As stated in this article studies investigating the role of the father in child development have focused on a range of different aspects of fathers and the father ââ¬â child relationship, such as paternal emotional well- being, father ââ¬â child attachment, and the quality of father ââ¬â child interactive. The study have shown that fathersââ¬â¢ active and regular engagement with their children has a positive effect on childrenââ¬â¢s social, behavioral, psychological, and cognitive development later in life. In conclusion this study was meant as an exploratory and preliminary investigation of fathers; experience during pregnancy Vreeswijk,M.J.M.,C., Maas,B.M.A.,J., Rijk,H.A.M.,C., Bakel ,V.J.A. H., (2013). Over the years as growing into an adult it has really been a struggle for me to maintain a healthy relationship with the opposite sex, because I am always questioning is this person who they say they are? Will they give up and leave and be abusive as my father was? Will I ever feel real love that I am wanting so badly to experience? As a young adult it was difficult to maintain a healthy longevity relationship or friendship, I would put more into the relationships and friendships and they would still end with my feeling being hurt because I was being so nice to gain and keep friends not knowing that it goes both ways it cannot be no one way street, when being in a relationship or friendship. I think this took me until I was almost 30 years of age to know that not everyone will treat you how you treat them. I was so naà ¯ve to think that everyone will treat you the way you treat them but a lot of people didnââ¬â¢t grow up that way. Every house hold is different and everyone is bor n into different lifestyles and parenting styles which causes them to react or act on what they seen as children growing up. Being an adult it is very challenging you see how your parents held the family together and what surfaces one has to take in order to take care of an family there are so many ups and downs you will go through when coming into adult hood. For me I was so excited being able to do things on my own without my parents but then reality really hit when I couldnââ¬â¢t lean on my parents anymore for things because they too was adjusting to being on their own again without caring for their children anymore. Today, at 32 it isà still a struggle as I am still growing into the women I was set out to be no one is perfect and it takes years for one to become fully mature and I know I will reach my potential success with growth, time, patience and having a healthy relationship with God. Some of the beliefs and I developed while growing up were in the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church is the Church that Jesus Christ established. Thus the Church subsists in the Catholic Church. However, member s of other Christian churches and denominations are also in communion with the Catholic Church by virtue of their sacraments. The accepted Churches possess fully valid sacraments, and are true particular Churches, whereas Christians are in communion with the Catholic Church on account of their baptism; still, this communion is impaired. The Church in one, because it is unified in Christ across regions. The Church is Holy on account of the grace of Christ given to it and the holy sacraments it provides. The Catholic Church contains the fullness of the Deposit of Faith, thus is it truly ââ¬Å"according to the wholeâ⬠and ââ¬Å"universal?â⬠Finally, the Church is Apostolic because its Teachings and power come from the Apostles themselves. Some of the beliefs I developed in the terms of right and wrong behavior were divorce, pre-marital sex, and same-sex relationships having a relationship with Christ always putting Christ and family first. The new Christian is capable of being a doer of the Word, enabled by the Spirit; then change in the problem areas can occur. I gather information to understand the problem and the underlying issues. We build a Christ-centered relationship of care and trust. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV) states encouragement from Godââ¬â¢s Word, outlining the certainty of being able to be equipped and strengthened to change with Godââ¬â¢s help. ââ¬Å"Spiritual development is likely a wellspring for the best of human life (e.g., generosity, unit, sacrifice, altruism, social justice) as well as for our darkest side (e.g., genocide, terrorism, slavery). Using social science to examine this potent force in society and individual lives of young people has been neglected for too longâ⬠(p. 210). The Handbook of Spiritual Development in Childhood and Adolescence seeks to ensure that this oversight does not persist. Spiritual development may be at a ââ¬Å"tipping pointâ⬠for becoming a major theme in child and adolescent development. A growing number of scholars in various disciplines have invested themselves in this field. The public imagination appears to be ready in numerous cultures, traditions,à and contexts, all of which are struggling with social changes that threaten to undermine the spiritual lives of young people. Mental Health An Individual s Psychological And...
Mental health refers to an individualââ¬â¢s psychological and emotional wellbeing (World Health Organisation, 2014). With over 25 million UK residents (Mental Health Foundation, 1999) spending a large majority of their time at work, it is important that concerns for a personââ¬â¢s welfare extend to the workplace. Every year mental health problems, including stress, anxiety and depression affect 1 in 6 British employees (Mental Health Foundation, 1999). Despite this, a Confederation of British Industry (CBI) survey of over 800 companies found that only 1 in 10 of these companies had an official mental health policy (Mental Health Foundation, 1999). Mental health, it appears, is still a taboo subject in the workplace. Studies have shown thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In a three-month period, individuals with depression miss an average of 4.8 workdays and suffer 11.5 days of reduced productivity (Ref,), resulting in an estimated 91 million working days being lost every ye ar to mental ill-health (The Mental Health Foundation, 1999). These figures are higher than those resulting from a physical illness or injury. Employers, under UK law have a ââ¬Ëduty of careââ¬â¢- to protect the health, safety and welfare of their staff (Health and Safety Act, 1984). Therefore, introducing health and wellbeing programmes/interventions will have a positive outcome for employers and employees alike. Research has shown that such measures increase job satisfaction for employees (PricewaterhouseCoopers, 2008), and in turn increases levels of job performance, overall satisfaction and mental health, and reduces sickness absence and staff turnover. For organisations that actively promote good mental health in the workplace, they experience increased efficiencies and profits. Consider the major electricity provider- EDF Energy. ââ¬Å"A workplace audit showed that the company was losing around à £1.4 million in productivity each year as a result of mental ill health among its employees. As part of an Employee Support Programme, the company offered psychological support (cognitive behavioural therapy) to employees and trained over 1000

James Baldwin s Short Sonny s Blues And Raymond Carver
Being able to relate to people can often be a huge problem. In both James Baldwinââ¬â¢s short Sonnyââ¬â¢s Blues and Raymond Carver short story Cathedral. The main focus of the story is realization. In both stories the main characters are challenged with situations in which they must break free of their judgments. Both characters undergo a transformation and views life through the eyes of another character. What are their transformations and how are they similar, how they are different, and what does the transformation does to the protagonist? Likewise, both protagonistsââ¬â¢ are judgmental and alienated from the outside world. In Sonnyââ¬â¢s Blues both brothers grew up in Harlem, a neighborhood life with poverty and despair. Though the narrator teaches school in Harlem, he distances himself emotionally from the people who live there and their struggles and is somewhat judgmental and superior. He loves his brother but is distanced from him as well and judgmental of his life and decisions. He does not really understand what motivates Sonny to play music until the afternoon before he accompanies Sonny to his performance at a club in Harlem. That evening, as he finally listens to his brother play, he is finally able to understand what Sonny is saying through his music: I heard what he had gone through, and would continue to go through until he came to rest in earth. Digital Forensics Is The Process Of Uncovering And...
Digital forensics is the process of uncovering and interpreting electronic data for use in a court of law. The main goal of the process is to preserve any evidence in its most original form while performing a structured investigation by collecting, identifying and validating the digital information which will be admissible in a court of law. To collect the document has to follow certain guidelines. United States v. Gourde (2006) and United States v. Zeigler (2007) are both great examples of cases to investigate the case. The primary goal of this document is to demonstrate the importance of digital forensics in solving criminal investigation. In the following paragraph two criminal cases are studied and analyzed. In United States v. Gourde, 440 F.3d 1065, 1077 (9th Cir. 2006), the issued in this case was that Micah Gourde appeals from the district court s denial of his motion to suppress more than 100 images of child pornography seized from his home computer. The Defendant Gourde claims that the affidavit in support of the search lacked sufficient indicia of probable cause. He also claimed that because it contained no evidence that he was the one who actually downloaded or possessed child pornography. Browsing the entire website undercover agent captured hundreds of images that included adult pornography, child pornography, and child erotica. Wouldnââ¬â¢t it help people make the right decisions when it comes to ââ¬Å"experimentingâ⬠with lifeââ¬â¢s vices like the publics knowledge of heroin, cocaine, LSD and so on? Where did DMT come from and what is its purpose? Based on user accounts, FDA regulated studies and documentaries involving indigenous peoples in South America some of these questions were answered with even more interesting ones raised. Shamanic rituals throughout the Amazon region called for a special potion referred to as ayhuasca, a combination between a DMT containing plant and a ââ¬Å"monoamine oxide inhibitorâ⬠which is a special chemical that allows the DMT to avoid digestion by the stomach and reach the bloodstream. There is evidence stretching back to 2130 BC supporting the fact that these rituals have been passed down and adopted by people living today. A pipe made out of puma bone of that time period was discovered and tested positive for DMT. An example of vegetation containing this chemical is pure inner root bark of the Mimosa Hostilis plant, and itââ¬â¢s used for its DMT properties for several reasons by Shaman; entering altered states of consciousness, shamanistic healing, meditation, spiritual exploration and mystical insight. DMT stands for Dimethyltryptamine. It is found in thousands of plant species across the world and in trace amounts in mammals. It is a type of tryptamine along with other natural occurring ones such as serotonin and melatonin. Its natural function in the human body is unknown, but it is produced in out pineal gland and can be found in our spinal fluid, urine, and blood. Our brain is one of the most complex items in our worlds known existence and for the most part it is highly accurate when it releases hormones and chemicals. Studies performed by Dr. Rick Strassman at the University of New Mexico, in which subjects were injected with doses of DMT, show strong correlation with other user accounts and interviews with shaman in brazil. The experiences are remarkably similar, the person who injects, smokes, snorts or eats DMT claim to encounter alien entities, or godly figures. Smoking the substance has been determined to cause the greatest effect, episodes lasting only from about 15-30 minutes. To the person under the effect of DMT it feels a lot longer than that, claims that it lasts for hours. Cherry Orchard Symbolism Essay Example For Students
Cherry Orchard Symbolism Essay We dont see things as they are. We see them as we are. This quoteby Anais Nin expresses an essential point of view for this discussion about thesymbolic meaning of inanimate objects, since it is our personality and ourmemories, which determine our character and meaning. Our feelings towardscertain objects are individual, as everyone associates different things in adifferent manner. Insofar, we see them as we are, since they canmirror our past, pains, hopes and our ideals. Thus they become more than just anobject, but a symbol for a certain part of someones feelings and life. This isalso the case in The Cherry Orchard: objects as the nursery room, the bookcase and the cherry orchard take on their own symbolic life. They allshare one thing in common: each one reveals something of the characterspersonalities, feelings and ideals. These inanimate objects are a reflection ofthe characters inner states of being. The meaning of these inanimate objectsare changing analogously with the charact ers change of mood, perspective andstate of mind. Thus one gets the impression that the objects are more likepersons, since it is only the characters life, which makes and keeps themalive. The nursery room may be for an outstanding person without any implicitsignificance, but for Lopakhin and Liuba it is a symbol for their childhood, background and past. The nursery room reminds Lopakhin of his origins. It makeshim aware that he is just a peasent (p.334); no matter how rich hehas become or how elegant he might be dressed, his social background stillremains visible for other people. After all, one cant make a silk purseout of a sows ear(p.334), as his origins will be for good a part of hisidentity. For Liuba the nursery room symbolizes her innocentchildhood (p.347). Being in this room, in which she used to sleepwhen she was little (p.336) seems to bring her back to feel a part of thatsecure, carefree life and makes her feel little again(p.336). Thebookcase has the same effect on her; all her troubles seem to be far away andshe feels pure happiness (p.342). Gayevs relationship to thebookcase is less personal, as he doesnt associate a particular personal memorywith it. He considers it rather as an object, which has its own personality;hence, though it is an inanimate object, true, but still ? a bookcase(p.345)! The way he sees it is reminiscent of a hero, as it has foralready hundred years devoted itself to the highest ideals of goodness andjustice (p.345) and has never deceived anyone. Being constantly andunshakably true to its principles, it was a source, from which severalgenerations of their family(p.345) have drawn courage and hope in abetter future(p.345). In the course of time a lot of things have changed:some people are dead, Gayev and Liuba got adolescent, and the estate is probablygoing to be sold. However, the bookcase not being subject to any rules orchanges, thus becomes for Gayev a symbol of consistency and security. Thecentral symbol of The Cherry O rchard, as the title might suggest, isthe cherry orchard itself. The cherry orchard does not only represent aninanimate object, but it is the center of the characters world. Their livescould be divided into the era before the cherry orchard was sold(p.301) and into the era after it. With this change the symbolic meaning of thecherry orchard before and after the sale also changes. The cherry orchardbefore the sale plays a part in each of the characters past; but it seemsforemost to be part of Liubas mind, through which the cherry orchard takes onhis own symbolic life, as its symbolic meaning changes with the changes in hermind. She cant conceive to live without the cherry orchard (p.375),as almost her whole past and memories are connected to it. Looking at it seemsto revive the memories of her happy childhood (p.347) and makes timestand still, as if nothing has changed(p.347) in her life. In thosedays her attitude towards life was innocent and bold (p.375), as shewasnt yet able to fo resee or expect anything dreadful(p.375). Shefelt like the cherry orchard, after the dark, stormy autumn and the coldwinter, young and joyous again (p.347); but now, she seems to havelost this power of vision (p.375) and her naive view of life. Thatsmight be the reason for her to see the cherry orchard in such an illusory light. .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 , .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .postImageUrl , .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 , .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014:hover , .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014:visited , .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014:active { border:0!important; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014:active , .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014 .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ub171764f556e8a5321bff3206acbc014:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Plea Bargaining Essay It had become a refugee place, where she hides to escape from reality, herproblems (p.375) and sins (p.359). The cherry orchardfor her embodies a kind of paradise, into which her unhappy past does notenter, but only her happy past. She doesnt want to let go the cherry orchard, because she doesnt want to let go her happy past. As long as the cherryorchard exists, her childhood feelings seem to continue to still exist for real. To sale the cherry orchard would mean to erase that beloved part of her life andthus sell her (p.347), too. However, the irony is that she escapes from herunhappy past to a place just like the cherry orchard, which magic only livesthrough the past itself. In as much as the cherry orchard represents a kind ofGarden Eden for her, it at the same time also is a burden (p.348),which rests on her shoulders. As long as she continues to stick to the orchard, she wont forget her past (p.349) and wont thus be able to create anew future. To begin to live in the present, one must first atone for hispast and be finished with it (p.368). Unlike t Liuba, her daughter, Ania, already reached that conclusion and is willing to leave (p.368) thisburden behind her; her love (p.367) for the cherry orchard hasvanished, as it is part of her past life and has therefore nothing to do anylonger with her present and future. The cherry orchard after the sale thusbecomes a symbol for renewal and a new beginning for the life of each characterin the play: Lopakhin purchasing the estate got able to get rid of his origins. Gay with life and wealth (p.344), he has freed himself from beingonly the grandson and son of serfs, who used to work on this estate. Now he hasbecome the owner of that place and with the cutting down of the cherry orchard,he is going to leave his past and origins behind him, creating a newliving world (p.384). Also Liubas burden (p.348) of the pastseems now to have become lighter; her nerves are better (p.391) andshe is going to leave for Paris, since she might have recognized that itsfinished long ago that there is no turning back(p.375). Gayev hasfinally calmed down (p.391), too and is going to be an employee of abank. Varia is going to leave for a new job, and Ania and Trofimov are gladlystepping towards their new life (p.391). Also the rest of thecharacters have to start a new life in a new place. When they leave therewont be a soul in this place (p.397) anymore. Maybe not in this place, thats true, but for sure in another place, since there are in the worldmany, many wonderful places (p.367/368), on which one canplant a new orchard (p.385).
